Simply put, the best I headphones I have ever heard. I went to a couple high end video stores and tried Grado’s (which were good but uncomfortable to me, not to mention open-very open), Sennheiser’s- pretty much the whole line I wasn’t impressed at all, way overpriced IMHO. I even took a few trips to Best Buy to check out the Bose, and the the Beats. I was leaning toward the grado’s even though they had 2 features I didn’t like, comfort and opened. I started to hit some forums since I am not very knowledgeable on headphones. The A.T.s came up a few times so I checked them out on Amazon. I ordered these without listening to them first and hoping for the best. I can’t tell you how happy I am with my purchase. The ATH-A700’s reproduces the music better than I have heard and that includes some high end systems at the AV stores.
Pro’s
1.Detail-Separation is unreal-it’s like listening to all my music for the first time.
2.Comfortable- or at least as comfortable as something on your head can get
3.Price-Easily outperforms headphones 5x the price, and I could never afford free standing speakers that could come close to reproducing this sound.
4.Sounds great out of the box, scary thought that these will only get better
5.Bass-to my taste it’s perfect-tight not overpowering
6.Cord-it’s nylon covered so you don’t hear when it rubs against something
7.Closed phones-They keep some sound out, but not all, also not all sound stays in so be aware that others will be able to hear them. Not as bad as if they were open but when my GF had them on I knew what song she was listening to.
Con’s
This is a tough one because there really aren’t any.
1.Size-they are BIG-you will not be walking around much in these.
2.Durability-Not really a con, just unknown variable at this point
I really can’t see how you can do better at just over $100. Keep in mind that impressions of sound quality varies greatly from person to person. My best advice is to try before you buy if possible and check out a few forums.
